What Is Holy Fire® Reiki — and How Is It Different?

If you've been exploring Reiki, you've probably come across a lot of different names and lineages. Usui Reiki. Karuna Reiki. And increasingly — Holy Fire® Reiki. What is it, exactly? And how is it different from the Reiki you may have already heard about?
These are questions I love, because the answer gets at something I find genuinely exciting about where energy healing is going.
A quick foundation: what Reiki is
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that works with the life force energy that flows through all living things. A practitioner channels this energy through their hands — either lightly touching or hovering above the body — to support relaxation, release, and restoration at physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.
Traditional Usui Reiki, founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century, is the lineage most people are familiar with. It's powerful, gentle, and widely practiced around the world.
So if Usui Reiki already works beautifully — why Holy Fire®?
What Holy Fire® Reiki is
Holy Fire® Reiki is a contemporary evolution of Reiki introduced by the International Center for Reiki Training. It combines traditional Usui Reiki with a more refined, higher-consciousness energy that many practitioners describe as noticeably different in quality — not louder or more intense, but more refined. Clearer. More intelligent in the way it moves.
The name can throw people off. "Holy Fire" doesn't refer to religion or any specific spiritual tradition. It refers to the quality of the energy itself — purifying, illuminating, and deeply loving. Think of it less like a flame and more like the warmth of sunlight.
So what actually makes it different?
A few things stand out in my experience both as a practitioner and as someone who has received it:
It works continuously. One of the most remarkable qualities of Holy Fire® energy is that it doesn't stop when the session ends. It continues working in the background, spontaneously addressing things as they surface in your daily life. Clients often report shifts happening in the days after a session, not just during it.
It always respects free will. The energy goes where it's needed and never forces anything. There's no override here — just an intelligent, responsive presence that supports what you're genuinely ready to release or receive.
It heals deeply without distress. Traditional Reiki can sometimes stir things up before they settle — a healing response that can feel uncomfortable before it feels better. Holy Fire® tends to work more gently, creating deep shifts without that agitation.
It addresses relationships and interactions. This is something I find particularly profound. Holy Fire® doesn't just work on the individual in isolation — it can shift the energetic dynamics between people, healing the field between you and others in your life.
It continues to evolve. Once you've received Holy Fire® energy through certification — it doesn't stay static. It continues to grow and deepen in its effectiveness over time. That's not something you hear about many healing modalities.
Who introduced it — and why that matters
Holy Fire® Reiki was developed and introduced by William Rand, the founder of the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT). I trained directly with William Rand to receive my Reiki Master certification, which means the lineage I carry and teach is as direct as it gets.
This matters more than people realize. Reiki lineage — the unbroken line of teacher to student — is part of what carries the integrity and potency of the practice. When you learn Holy Fire® Reiki through a certified ICRT teacher, you're receiving something that has been carefully held and passed forward with intention.
Is Holy Fire® Reiki right for you?
If you're drawn to energy healing that meets you where you are, works with your own pace and readiness, and continues to support you between sessions — Holy Fire® Reiki is worth exploring. Whether you're curious about receiving a session or you're considering certification to share this work with others, the invitation is open.
What else is possible when you give yourself permission to receive
